Product Overview

Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait combines (S)-Methoprene, an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR), with attractive bait that foraging fire ant workers take back to the queen. (S)-Methoprene adversely affects the queen's ability to reproduce, so when existing workers die (normally within a three-week period), no new workers are created to replace them. The result? Starvation and elimination of the entire colony.

TIPS:  Extinguish Fire Ant Bait can take 8 to 12 weeks to see results, however, you should only apply this if the soil temperature is about 65 degrees, it is not going to rain within 8 hours, and the fire ants are foraging. It is recommended to broadcast the treatment instead of mound treat for best results, and you should apply the product where the ground is in the sun, since this is where fire ants will nest.

Details

EXTINGUISH PROFESSIONAL FIRE ANT BAIT contains an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) that can be applied anywhere fire ants go.

  • Complete control of fire ant colonies.
  • Approved for residential turf and landscapes and much more.
  • No withdrawal period or grazing restrictions.
  • Eliminates and controls colonies without colony relocation.

The IGR is contained in an attractive bait that foraging fire ant workers take back to the mound to feed to the queen. IGR's are different from conventional products which provide a direct kill to fire ants. IGR's work by affecting queen reproduction. The effects of the treatment may not be immediately evident. IGR's are slower in activity than conventional products. Though slower in action, control is complete without the concern of rebounding or movement of the colony to another location. Reduction in colony size can be seen beginning at 3 weeks with colony elimination within 8 to 10 weeks. When existing workers die, replacement workers are not produced resulting in starvation and elimination of the queen and colony.

Extinguish Fire Ant Bait may be used as a preventative application to reduce the buildup of fire ants into unwanted areas. Two to three broadcast applications (using a granule spreader) per year are recommended to prevent the encroachment and subsequent development of new mounds into an area. Repeat applications of Extinguish Fire Ant Bait may be made as often as fire ants are observed.

Do not disturb the mound or dump the bait on the mound! Disturbing the fire ant mound will only stress the colony, causing bait avoidance and possibly splitting the fire ants into more locations.

Broadcast Applications for Fire Ants

Apply Extinguish Fire Ant Bait to areas infested with fire ants at the rate of 1 to 1.5 pounds of product per acre (3.5 tablespoons per 1000 square feet) using a hand seeder or broadcast spreader.

Is Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait or Extinguish Plus waterproof? How do weather conditions affect it?

If Extinguish Professional Fire Ant Bait or Extinguish Plus gets wet, it will have reduced palatability, and therefore reduces results. The product should be allied while ground conditions are dry and where rainfall is not expected for more that six hours. Most foraging ants will pick up the bait within six hours after placement.
